Emirates is getting future ready by taking a note of new technology of the decentralized world. It is all set to expand by utilising the possibilities associated with metaverse and NFTs, states a report by Cointelegraph.
As per IATA’s World Air Transport data 2021, Emirates was the largest international airline in 2020 and flag carrier of the UAE (United Arab Emirates). With its focal point in Dubai, It is a subsidiary of The Emirates Group, which is owned by the government of Dubai’s Investment Corporation of Dubai. In a move to adopt the new world of digital currency and assets, Emirates announced its plan to implement payments via Bitcoin (BTC). Further , Emirates also plans to launch NFTs which will be traded through company’s official website.
As per the address of the chief operating officer of Emirates, Adel Ahmed Al-Redha, Emirates is also looking forward to recruit new employees who can handle blockchain technology and related projects like cryptocurrency, Metaverse and NFTs.
The airline plans to use blockchain science to maintain records of aircrafts as well as to provide better services by improving connectivity with the end users.
This is not the first instance of cryptocurrency’s use in airlines.
Blockchain-based technologies, crypto payments and other applications hold a large potential to streamline the work in a better way. Last year in February 2021, Air France used blockchain technology to verify COVID-19 test results.
The Latvian airline airBaltic has been accepting Bitcoin payments since 2014 and recently added Dogecoin (DOGE) and Ether (ETH) into its payment options.
Even airline Volaris from El Salvador accepts BTC as it is a legal tender there.
